Brackets and Certification

Brackets 1/2, 3/4, 5/6

Brackets 1/2
Equipment needed:
• Clipboard
• Pens
• Notebook
What you can expect:
• Equine anatomy
• Equine dental terminology
• What is Neuromuscular Based Dentistry
• Demonstration by instructors
• Pre-dental exam
• Charting
• Introduction to simulator work, instrument placement
• Question and answer time
• Observation of upper level students
• Introduction to practical work
• Simulator work
• Introduction to equipment
• How to order instruments
• Explanation of homework for level 3&4
Brackets 3/4
​Prior to Level 3, students must have preformed and charted 25-35 pre-dental exams, as well as have completed and passed the EQ50 exam. These levels focus on starting more practical work.
Equipment needed:
• Speculum
• Incisor float
• Full set of instruments
• Gloves, pail, towel, brush etc.
• Charts
What you can expect:
• Equine anatomy
• Equine dental terminology
• Simulator work
• Independent practical work
• Question and answer time
• Charts and charting
• Presentation of homework findings
• Introduction to bodywork
• Explanation of homework for Levels 5 & 6

Brackets 5/6
Prior to bracket 5/6, each student must perform and chart 35-45 full mouth balances.
Equipment needed:
• All from previous levels
What you can expect:
• Equine anatomy
• Equine dental terminology
• Simulator work
• Question and answer time with lower-level students
• Practical work independently, and with a lower-level student
• Presentation of homework findings
• Advanced instrument placement and techniques
• Start research project
​• Explanation of Certification process and Thesis

 Certification & DENTAL SUMMIT

Certification
Prior to Certification each student must send an “intent to certify” to the school, and perform and chart 45-55 full mouth balances, with the work performed in an hour or less per horse.
Including a summary of horses balanced, grouped by similarity.
Students must also produce a paper and oral presentation on a research topic of your choice.
For certifying, you must present an outline of your research subject/thesis.
This class is a 3-day intensive course that focuses on refining each student’s practical and theoretical understanding, while being evaluated for Certification.
Be prepared for time in the classroom, pasture, & at the barn.

Dental Summit-Continuing Education
Students are due for continuing education every 2 years to maintain certification.
​When returning for your first Dental Summit (2 years post-certification),
each practitioner must present a full outline of their research project/thesis.
When returning for your second Dental Summit (4 years post-certification)
each practitioner must present a completed research project/thesis.
This is a 3-day intensive course that focuses on refining our practical and theoretical understanding
of NBD as well as sharing new thoughts and ideas.

Be prepared for time in the classroom, pasture, & at the barn.

​Remember, deposits are due two months in advance of each class and homework for each level is to be completed and sent to Spencer 2 weeks before class with charts brought to class. 
​You also MUST have evaluated, balanced and charted the required number of horses prior to attending your next bracket.
